Born on December 29, 1900, in Mangeshi, Goa, Deenanath Mangeshkar was a renowned classical vocalist, Natya Sangeet musician and Marathi theatre artist. He was known for his powerful voice and deep knowledge of Indian classical music. Apart from singing, he also acted in musical plays and ran a theatre company. His contribution to music and drama made him a well-known figure during his time.

Deenanath Mangeshkar used to tour most of the time in Madhya Pradesh in the late 1920s due to his work-related commitments, and that's why Lata Mangeshkar was born in Indore on September 28, 1929, while Asha Bhosle, the second child, was born in Sangli, Maharashtra, on September 8, 1933.

Deenanath Mangeshkar died on April 24, 1942, at the age of 41 due to excessive consumption of alcohol. After his death, the family faced huge financial struggles, which led Asha and Lata to begin working early to support their family. Despite the hardships, the lessons given by their father helped them stay strong and focused on their goals.

Lata Mangeshkar was eldest, and Asha Bhosle was second eldest of five siblings. After Lata and Asha younger siblings were Meena Khadikar, Usha Mangeshkar, and Hridyanath Mangeshkar (youngest). Their mother, Shevanti Mangeshkar, was Gujarati and the second wife of Deenanath, as well as the younger sister of his first wife, Narmada Mangeshkar. Their mother, Shevanthi, died on June 16, 1995, after health complications due to age-related ailments.
Father Deenanath’s teachings, discipline and passion for music continued to live through Lata and Asha’s timeless songs. He will always be remembered as the man who shaped two of India’s greatest musical legends.
