Asha Bhosle's biography of the extremely terrible events of her first marriage, when she was 16 and married Ganpatrao Bhosle, who was 31. The renowned singer reflected on her early decision to marry against her family's wishes. The singer did not hold back while discussing the abuse she experienced following her 16-year-old elopement with Ganpatrao Bhosle in her memoirs.

Asha Bhosle's first marriage, which started against the wishes of her family, quickly became a time of both physical and emotional suffering. She said, "I did get married at a very young age to a man who was 20 years older than I was", in an earlier interview with Kavita Chhiber.

Asha Bhosle: 'He Was Short-Tempered'

"The family was very conservative, and they could not handle a singing star for a daughter-in-law. My husband was short-tempered. Maybe he liked to inflict pain, maybe he was a sadist. But no one would hear about it outside. I gave him respect, never questioning what he did. I just did my duty as per Hindu dharma,” a section from the book read.

Asha Bhosle Was 'Abused, Ill-Treated'

Asha Bhosle had mentioned that she had experienced 'abuse and ill-treatment' throughout the marriage. When she became pregnant with her third child, the situation reached a breaking point. She had described how she was turned out and went back to her mother's house with her kids, saying, "I was asked to leave when I was expecting my youngest son."

During this time, her relationship with her sister, Lata Mangeshkar, was especially impacted. "It was a love marriage, and Lata didi did not speak to me for a long time. She disapproved of the alliance. The family was very conservative, and they could not handle a singing star for a daughter-in-law," the singer recalled while speaking to Kavita Chhiber.

Despite the occurrence, her reflection showed no signs of bitterness. She chose to focus on her children and her future, insisting that she had no animosity. Asha Bhosle later found companionship with music composer RD Burman after divorcing her first husband. In 1980, the couple tied the knot for the second time.
