Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle has passed away at the age of 92, leaving millions of fans across the world in shock. Her demise marks a huge loss for the Indian music industry, coming just four years after the passing of her sister, iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar. Asha Bhosle’s death has created a deep void in the world of music, ending an era of timeless melodies and an unmatched vocal legacy.

Asha Bhosle was admitted to the hospital on April 11, 2026, following respiratory and heart problems. She passed away on April 12, 2026. Notably, Lata Mangeshkar also passed away on a Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the age of 92.

The Mangeshkar sisters collectively shaped centuries of musical storytelling, tone, and emotion.

Asha Bhosle was born into the distinguished Deenanath Mangeshkar family. But privilege wasn't the only factor in her journey. The young siblings were forced into the world of music at a young age since they had to provide for the family after their father's tragic death.

Asha Bhosle had to establish herself in a field that was already competitive and family-oriented, whereas Lata Mangeshkar swiftly became the industry leader in playback singing.

As their careers developed, comparisons between the two sisters became unavoidable, but both of them went on to create unique musical personas that enhanced rather than overshadowed one another.

Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar worked together on several songs, including Mann Kyon Behka Re from the 1984 movie Utsa, Jab Jab Tumhe Bhulaya Tum Aur Yaad Aaye from the 1964 movie Jahan Ara, Koi Ayega Ayega from the 1962 movie Professor, and Paake Akeli Mohe from the 1981 album Jail Yatra.

Asha Bhosle received the Padma Vibhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards, while Lata Mangeshkar received the Bharat Ratna. They are regarded as the cornerstones of Indian playback music, and in 2011, Asha won a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award.
