For years, one small mistake on Instagram meant living with it forever or deleting the comment entirely. That’s finally changing. Instagram is rolling out a long-awaited feature that allows users to edit their comments after posting them.
A Simple Fix To An Old Problem
With this update, users can now go back and fix typos, tweak wording, or improve replies without needing to delete the entire comment. It’s a small change, but one that solves a long-standing frustration on the platform.

How The Edit Feature Works
Editing a comment is straightforward. Once you post a comment, an ‘Edit’ option will appear below it. Tapping this opens a pop-up where you can make changes and save the updated version.
There’s also some flexibility here. Instagram is allowing users to edit their comments multiple times, so you are not locked into a single correction.
There Is A Time Limit
The catch is timing. You only get a 15-minute window after posting a comment to make edits. After that, the comment becomes permanent again.
What You Can And Cannot Edit
The feature comes with a few limitations. Only the text portion of a comment can be edited. If your comment includes images, those cannot be changed after posting.
Also, once a comment is edited, a subtle “Edited” label will appear below it. However, Instagram is not showing any edit history. That means once you update a comment, the original version is gone for good and cannot be viewed by others.
Why It Took This Long
Oddly enough, Instagram has offered the option to edit captions since 2014, while comments stayed untouched for more than a decade. This update ensures that posts and comments are on equal footing.
On the other hand, the competition has already tried out such a feature. Twitter, for example, started testing the post-editing option back in 2022, but only a select few can access it. Even Threads has comment editing available for a short period of time.
The Importance of a Small Update
While this update may seem minor at first glance, it has real value for everyday users. Correcting typos or tweaking wording is always easier when you can edit your comments.
