MI vs RCB IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru's star opener Virat Kohli and Phil Salt gave the team a flying start by stitching a match-winning partnership of 120 runs for the first wicket and helped the team beat Mumbai Indians by 18 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. Virat Kohli scored an impressive 58 runs, whereas Phil Salt scored 78 runs off 36 balls.

It was a commanding performance by the visitor as it outplayed the home side in all three departments, especially on the batting front. Earlier in the day, MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Put into bat, RCB’s batters took the MI bowlers to the cleaners. Phil Salt (78 off 36 balls) and Rajat Patidar (53 off 20 balls) were especially destructive as RCB ended its innings with a massive total of 240/4 from its 20 overs, RCB’s highest total against MI.

Rajat Patidar brought up his fifty in 17 balls, the joint second fastest by an RCB batter.

A target of 241 was going to be a tall ask for any side regardless of the potency of its batting line up and MI crumbled in its chase. The home side were dealt a huge blow when Rohit Sharma walked off the field retired hurt when he was batting on 19 off 13 balls with a suspected hamstring injury.

And it wasn’t long before MI started feeling the scoreboard pressure and in an attempt to keep up with the asking rate, a majority of its batters fell to rash shots. Krunal Pandya was the pick of the bowlers for RCB for his spell of 1/26 from his four overs.

Sherfane Rutherford fought valiantly with a quickfire unbeaten 71 from 31 balls but his efforts did not prove to be enough in the end as the visitor fell short of the target by 18 runs.

This was RCB’s third victory of the season and MI’s third consecutive loss on the trot.
