United States President Donald Trump has once again made immigration a central issue in his political messaging. Trump on Monday argued that large-scale immigration from developing countries could change the character and future of the US. His comments come as immigration remains a major topic in US politics.
Trump Warns US Can Become Third World Country
In a post on Truths Social, Trump repeated his long-standing "Make America Great Again" slogan while criticising immigration. He wrote that bringing large numbers of people from poorer nations into the US could lead to negative changes in the country. According to Trump, such migration could weaken America's progress and identity.
“Sadly, if you import people from Third World Countries, you quickly become a Third World Country - And there's not a thing you can do about it. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP” Trump said. His remarks follow recent criticism of the US judicial system over immigration-related policies.
On June 8, Trump attacked federal judges after a court blocked his administration's proposal to impose a USD 100,000 fee on H-1B visa applications. The court ruled that the fee amounted to a tax and could not be introduced without approval from Congress. Speaking to reporters, Trump had expressed frustration with the court's decision. He said federal judges were making it difficult for his administration to implement its policies.
“These federal judges are really giving us a hard time. It's really crazy what's going on with the court system... They're hurting our country very badly,” Trump remarked. Immigration has remained a key issue in Trump's public statements. In April, he shared a video by conservative author and radio host Michael Savage, who criticised birthright citizenship. Savage argued that some immigrants take advantage of US laws by entering the country late in pregnancy so that their children are born as American citizens.

Trump's Anti-Immigration Push
During his second term, Trump has pushed several measures aimed at tightening both legal and illegal immigration. One major proposal was to reform the H-1B visa system by replacing the lottery process with a selection system based on skills and wages, along with the proposed visa fee increase. However, the fee hike was blocked by a federal judge, and the Justice Department has appealed the decision.
Trump has also continued to focus on illegal immigration along the US-Mexico border. He argues that stronger border security is necessary to reduce illegal crossings, drug trafficking, and cross-border crime.
