Prime Minister Narendra Modi met United States President Donald Trump for the first time in 16 months during the G7 meeting in Evian, France. The two world leaders shook hands while greeting each other.

Though the interaction was brief, it seemed cordial as both leaders exchanged smiles and handshakes ahead of the summit proceedings.

The meeting comes after 16 months, a time period that saw a phase of the lowest US-India relations in recent decades on issues such as Trump's repeated claims of mediation between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor and imposition of 50 per cent tariffs on Indian imports.
