Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that several states will continue to witness light to heavy rainfall for the next few days. The weather department asserted that along with rain, the northern states will also witness thunderstorms, strong surface winds, and lightning at least till April 12. The rainfall has led to a drop in temperature, providing a relief to the residents from heat. However, the continuous rainfall has also damaged the crops in the rural regions.

While providing details, the weather department stated that several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand are likely to witness rainfall in the upcoming days. The rainfall is likely to drop the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius. However, waterlogging is likely in the lower regions of these states, leading to inconveniences to the residents.

The IMD further stated that storms similar to 'Kal Baisakhi' is expected in Bengal, leading to weather change in nearby states, including Bihar and Odisha. The northeastern states like Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to receive rainfall for the next five days with wind speeds of up to 80 km/h.

Reasons behind change in weather:

- Fresh western disturbance affecting Jammu andd Kashmir
- Cyclonic circulation over several states, including Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh

However, the weather department has asserted that the temperature is likely to rise significantly after April 15, adding that several states are expected to witness heatwaves in the upcoming weeks. It stated that the northern states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab are likely to witness a surge in temperature by two to four degrees Celsius.

The IMD has also asserted that the coastal regions of several southern states, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh are set to witness moderate to heavy rainfall in the next few days.
