With temperatures topping 40 degrees Celsius in Tamil Nadu, heat is beginning to take effect on the population. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted sporadic showers to fall in Southern Tamil Nadu, with the majority of the State being dry and consistently very warm for many days still.

The latest weather report issued by the weather Department last Friday states that today there is a possibility of isolated rainfall occurring in Kanyakumari and the adjacent areas near the Western Ghats, and these showers will be seen in the Kanyakumari/Tirunelveli areas as well as in the Western Ghats vicinity from April 13 until April 17.

The other regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal have been issued warnings indicating mostly dry conditions will exist until this date in all three regions, with the probability of increasing maximum temperatures throughout Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal is 2-3 degrees Celsius.

According to the Weather Department, the statewide temperature will not vary from the longer-term normal (maximum temperature) in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, but would increase slightly (2 - 3 degrees Celsius) in some areas of Tamil Nadu over the next few days.

From April 13 to 15, temperatures in several places could climb 2-3 degrees Celsius above normal, indicating the persistence of heatwave-like conditions across the region.
