West Bengal News: Sourav Ganguly, former Indian cricket captain and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president, filed a complaint with the Kolkata Police, alleging that a Facebook page with millions of followers had been circulating defamatory and misleading content aimed at damaging his reputation.
The former cricketer alleged that a Facebook page named "Sourav Ganguly Fans" is trying to tarnish his image. He also mentions a digital media platform in the complaint. An FIR has been registered at the Thakurpukur police station.
What Ganguly Said In His Complaint
Ganguly said the Facebook page was continuously sharing posts "intended to tarnish his image and create a negative public perception about him. "As a public figure, I understand that opinions and criticism are part of public life. However, spreading misleading, defamatory, and harmful information with the intent to damage my reputation is unacceptable and requires appropriate legal action," he said in the complaint.

He further stated, "I request you to register my complaint against the individuals/group running this page and take necessary action as per applicable laws."
What Is The Matter?
The controversy began when a post was shared on a Facebook page claiming that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided Ganguly's house, drawing a severe reaction from the ex-cricketer. Ganguly dismissed this claim as completely false and baseless. He stated that such news not only damages his personal image but also creates confusion among the public.
Ganguly alleged that posts that are intended to malign my reputation and create a negative impression among the public were being continuously shared. The former cricketer said the page, which has over 3.6 million followers, was causing serious harm to his personal and professional image through the dissemination of allegedly false and damaging material.
Requesting a thorough probe, he said the authorities should investigate the matter and "take immediate necessary action to prevent further misuse of social media platforms to damage my reputation".
A senior police officer confirmed receiving Ganguly's complaint and said the matter was being examined. Ganguly, one of India's most celebrated cricketers, captained the national team between 2000 and 2005 and later served as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
