Patna Bungalow Row: Rabri Devi Seeks Stay At 10 Circular Road Till 2030, Cites Lalu Yadav's Health Condition

Tensions escalated in Patna over the issue of security arrangements and official residences, as political pressure and administrative decisions brought the Lalu Prasad family into the spotlight.

In the first phase, disagreements reportedly intensified on the streets of Patna, where RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was seen moving around without security personnel, amid a backdrop of growing political friction. However, the government did not reverse its stand on the ongoing decisions despite the developments.

Later, a formal communication was sent on behalf of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi. In a letter addressed to the government through her secretary, a request was made allowing her to continue residing at 10, Circular Road, the official residence she currently occupies, for as long as she remains a member of the Legislative Council. Her tenure in the Council is scheduled to continue until May 6, 2030.

It is also noted that the deadline to vacate the bungalow had already ended on June 15, after which administrative action became a possibility under existing rules. Rabri Devi had earlier received multiple notices from the Building Construction Department regarding the shift in residence.

The first notice was issued in November last year, directing her to relocate to 39 Hardinge Road in her capacity as Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council. Following subsequent notices, discussions around the bungalow issue intensified further.

Officials indicated that Rabri Devi may eventually have to vacate 10 Circular Road, as preparations for shifting are already underway.

The residence at 10 Circular Road has long been associated with RJD politics and has remained a key political address for the past two decades. The letter also highlighted medical requirements linked to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s post-transplant care, stating that he requires a specially equipped room with ICU-like facilities to ensure proper treatment and infection control.

The request also sought similar arrangements in the proposed new residence, citing health and medical needs.
