Noida Traffic Alert: A large-scale protest by factory workers over low wages and unmet demands for salary hikes turned violent in Uttar Pradesh's Noida on Monday, as agitating employees vandalised vehicles, damaged property and allegedly pelted stones at police personnel in the Phase 2 industrial area.

The agitation led to massive traffic disruption across key stretches of the city. Movement on the Noida Link Road was severely affected, with long traffic jams reported for hours. Protesters also blocked routes near the Chilla Border, impacting commuters travelling from Delhi to Noida during peak office hours.

As the situation escalated, Noida Traffic Police issued advisories on social media, asking people to avoid several congestion-prone routes. However, office-goers still faced a difficult commute amid diversions and road blockades.

According to a post on X by the Noida Traffic Police, “Traffic update at 14:52 PM: Traffic is operating smoothly on the Chilla Border Road.”

However, by 5:08 PM, traffic began to build up, with congestion reported from Ahinsa Khand 1 in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, to the Chilla Border Bus Stand along the DND Flyway near Okhla Bird Sanctuary in Noida.

What Triggered the Protest?

Workers are demanding a revision in wages, pointing out the disparity between neighbouring states. While the minimum wage in Haryana stands at Rs 19,000, it is around Rs 13,000 in Uttar Pradesh. Protesters argue that wages in Uttar Pradesh should be brought in line with Haryana.
