In another development, Banerjee arrived at the High Court for a hearing in the Assembly LoP case.

It was an infighting over the selection of LoP that turned out to be the tipping point of the revolt in the Banerjee's party. The alleged fake signatures of TMC MLAs triggered a rebellion against the TMC supremo, leading to a split in the party.

Banerjee's TMC legislative party elected Ballygunge MLA Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), while the Ritabrata Banerjee-led rebel group picked him for the post. The Speaker accepted the rebels' pick and appointed Ritabrata as the LoP, escalating the fight in the TMC. Later, the former CM moved the High Court, challenging the Speaker's decision.
