Controversy erupted after Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Kolkata's Mukundapur area found packets of condoms, a massage machine and a make-up room from a Trinamool Congress Councillor's ward office on Monday. The items were recovered from the home of TMC councillor Ananya Bandapadhyay, who represents Ward 109 in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). Following the discovery, BJP workers staged an agitation outside the Councillor's office, demanding accountability from the actress-turned-politician, alleging that the government office was misused for inappropriate services.

What Was Found At The Councillor's Office?

The BJP was stunned to find such things inside the office premises. Condom packets and a massage machine were found. The most unusual thing was a make-up room inside the office. Additionally, large quantities of relief goods, including clothing, multiple land deed documents and a list purportedly showing KMC job appointments, were provided.

A yellow coloured book was a significant find in the entire search. Locals allege that the notebook contains a detailed record of money collected from individuals in exchange for government jobs. Names are reportedly listed area-wise—covering Mukundapur, Bikash Guha Colony, and Mukundapur 6B—alongside departments such as the Health Department and Solid Waste Management (SWM).

BJP workers claim that the list is linked to an alleged job recruitment scam within the TMC.

What Did Ananya Say?

TMC Councillor Ananya said that she has no connection with the recovered items. The Tollywood actress turned politician also claimed that she does not hold the keys to the ward office.

On the relief goods, she said Eid had just passed, making it natural for donated clothing to be stored at the office. She has not yet commented specifically on the condoms, the massage machine, or the yellow notebook.

Who Is Ananya Bandyopadhyay?

Ananya Bandyopadhyay (32) is a Tollywood actress, spokesperson of the All India Trinamool Congress, and the elected councillor of KMC Ward 109. A graduate in English from Calcutta University, she has previously served as chairperson of the West Bengal Women’s Development Initiative and as a member of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Her ward covers parts of south-east Kolkata, including Mukundapur, Santoshpur, and Nayabad.

Questions are also being raised about Ananya’s assets. She reportedly owns a lavish bungalow at 175/1 Santoshpur Avenue — described in Bengali media as resembling a palace — and critics are questioning how a municipal councillor can afford such a property.
