Jharkhand Weather: The prematurely activated Kalbaisakhi brought sudden thunderstorms and rain to Jharkhand’s Dhanbad. After a bright, sunny morning on Wednesday, the weather abruptly changed in the afternoon. Heavy rain was accompanied by thunderstorms, and hailstorms were reported in several areas. After about an hour, the storms subsided. Storms and rain continued into Thursday. Authorities have issued a yellow alert until Friday morning.
According jagran.com, monsoon researcher Dr SP Yadav said Kalbaisakhi originated in Uttar Pradesh around 1 pm on Wednesday. Activated by a western disturbance, Kalbaisakhi’s speed was so high that it reached Dhanbad within an hour and a half or two.
Kalbaisakhi remained active from the Himalayas to Jharkhand. As per Yadav, the weather trend is similar to last year. This time, Kalbaisakhi is more active. It occurs usually between April 15 and May 15. However, the plateau region of Chhotanagpur is becoming hotter, creating conditions for Kaal Baisakhi.
Unseasonal rainfall amid intensifying summer heat has drawn mixed reactions across North India. The shift has impacted several states like Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh including Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh, in particular, has been witnessing fluctuating weather patterns. On Wednesday, rain accompanied by strong winds lashed more than 55 districts, bringing much-needed relief from the heat. Temperatures dipped sharply across regions, with Gorakhpur recording a significant fall of 10 degrees Celsius, as the maximum temperature dropped to 25.5 degrees Celsius.
IMD has forecast that the spell of rain will continue on Thursday, with over 60 districts likely to receive showers. The department attributed the conditions to a western disturbance and an active weather system, which are expected to keep the skies cloudy and trigger light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms in several areas. Hailstorms may also occur in more than two dozen districts.
