Telangana is all set to inaugurate Donald Trump Avenue, a road adjoining the US Consulate in Hyderabad's financial district, highlighting its emerging ties with the United States. The avenue is expected to be officially opened on June 23. The development has triggered a fierce political backlash, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slamming Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's administration for hypocrisy, directly pointing out senior leader Rahul Gandhi's recent "surrender to Trump" remarks.
CM Revanth Reddy US Ambassador To Attend June 23 Event
Reports say the June 23 inaugural ceremony will be attended by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor alongside Revanth Reddy. The ceremony is expected to feature a series of diplomatic events and celebrations ahead of the US’ Independence Day festivities on July 4. Officials claim the road naming ceremony caught international attention to Hyderabad’s expanding relationship with the US.
An official said the Telangana government is also considering naming more roads after major technology companies, including Google and Microsoft, as part of its efforts to project the state as a hub of innovation-led development. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had initially proposed the name in December 2025. However, the plan was halted amid global uncertainties, including the US tariff dispute and the conflict in West Asia. With tensions easing, the state government has revived the proposal and is moving ahead with the inauguration.
Times of India reported that the initiative indicates the strong commercial partnership between Hyderabad and the US, which has contributed significantly to investments, employment opportunities, and economic growth in the state.

BJP Questions Move
The opposition has significantly slammed the move. Telangana BJP president Ramchander Rao questioned the Congress government’s decision to name a road after US President Donald Trump and took aim at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

According to Rao, the move was at odds with recent remarks by Rahul Gandhi on India’s dealings with Trump. "Mr. Revanth Reddy is now inaugurating a Donald Trump Avenue, while his leader, Rahul Gandhi, says India has ‘surrendered’ to Trump. Now they should clarify whether it is Revanth Reddy or Rahul Gandhi who has surrendered to Trump," he said.
The Telangana government has maintained that the initiative is intended to highlight Hyderabad’s strong economic and business ties with the United States and reinforce the city’s global investment profile.
