In a sensational incident, a man allegedly plotted the human sacrifice of 21 people in pursuit of a mysterious hidden treasure in Chhattisgarh's Balodabazar.

The villagers are in a state of panic after the deaths of eight people under suspicious circumstances over the past four months. Under suspicion is the village grocery store owner, Ramsai Jaiswal, who is accused of lacing borax into alcohol and serving it to nine people.

Eight of them died within 15 minutes of drinking the alcohol. However, these allegations have not yet been officially confirmed.

The investigation into the case is underway, and all eyes are now on the post-mortem and forensic reports. So far, seven bodies have been exhumed and sent for testing.

The old Kharve village, with a population of 800, located on the banks of the Mahanadi River, has been in the news since these deaths came to light.

Terror and silence now pervade this quiet village, dependent on farming and manual labour. The village has three grocery stores.

8 die after consuming alcohol

Villagers say none of the deceased had serious illnesses and all died after consuming alcohol. According to Dr Resham Singh, the mixture of borax and alcohol can be dangerous. Consuming it can cause vomiting, weakness, unconsciousness, kidney damage, and in severe cases, even death.

Meanwhile, Balodabazar Superintendent of Police (SP) OP Sharma said that the cause of death is being investigated first. Statements from villagers are also being recorded.
