Rajasthan Royals’ long-time team manager Romi Bhinder has come under scrutiny after being seen using a mobile phone in the dugout during an IPL 2026 match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), through its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU), has issued a show-cause notice to Bhinder following the incident during Rajasthan Royals’ clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati last week.
Bhinder was caught on television cameras using the phone while seated in the dugout alongside teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during the match on Friday, raising concerns over a possible breach of anti-corruption protocols.

BCCI Issues Show-Cause Notice
The BCCI has asked Bhinder to respond within 48 hours regarding the use of a mobile device in a restricted area. The notice specifically pertains to the use of a phone in the dugout, which falls under the Players and Match Officials Areas (PMOA).
As per IPL regulations, players and team officials are not allowed to use mobile phones in PMOA zones to prevent any unauthorised or potentially corrupt flow of information. However, teams are permitted to use walkie-talkies for communication between the dressing room and the dugout under specific circumstances.
While team managers are allowed to carry mobile phones, their usage is strictly limited. Phones can be used inside the dressing room for cricket-related operations or in case of emergencies involving players or support staff. They must remain on silent mode at all times and cannot be used freely in restricted zones like the dugout.

The BCCI had earlier relaxed rules during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing limited phone usage to ensure franchises stayed updated with official communication. However, current protocols restrict such usage in match-day operational areas.
Rajasthan Royals are now under the scanner for a potential breach of the code of conduct. The board will decide on further action after reviewing Bhinder’s explanation.
